Importance of Teamwork

Being able to work effectively with a team is one of the most crucial aspects of achieving success in any setting whether it be on a sports team or in an occupation. However, as the world becomes more advanced and independent, many individuals fail to realize this. The truth is that instead of working with each other to merge new ideas and solutions we see others as a threat in this competitive age and time.

Teamwork is a challenge in and of itself. It requires people to manage their egos, develop humility, communicate effectively, resolve conflicts and, above all, commit to one another and to a common goal. Anyone who has worked on a team knows that the only way to do so successfully is by assessing oneself honestly and becoming the best person one can be. In this regard, not only does teamwork increase performance, it also promotes the development of better citizens and societies. Teamwork opens our minds to new perspectives and modes of thinking which can prove to be an instrumental factor in achieving goals. It is only when we listen to others and take into consideration what everyone brings to the table that we are able to do the best with our capabilities. When we work with others we bring each other’s hidden strengths out which only makes us stronger.

In my experience when I work with others I learn twice as much as I would if I were to work independently. Disregarding whether we win or not, it is the experience and lessons we learn on the journey that bring us closer together. It is very important to push each other out of our comfort zones by trying new options with different individuals. We can accomplish so much more with a team than we can individually leaving a greater footprint on the world. Why work independently when you can contribute to a group and make a greater positive change to the world? Working together in itself is a success because each member grows as a person only becoming a better version of themselves.
