We all have education, clean water, food, house, clothes, protection, electricity, etc.. yet, we want more. We have all heard the saying:
“The more we have, the more we want”.
We have more than what we need, but we still crave for more. Sometimes it is materialistic things and sometimes we wish different people were in our lives. Not everybody in this world has all the opportunities and support that we are fortunate to have. We often take things we have for granted instead of being grateful but what we need to practice is an attitude of gratitude.
But what is gratitude?
Gratitude is the quality of being thankful. This holiday season lets be grateful to the people in our lives. We should thank our parents for all the selfless things they do for us. They raise us in an environment where we have access to all kinds of facilities and luxuries. We should thank our veterans for risking their lives so we don’t have to. We should thank our teachers for sharing knowledge and preparing us for the real-world. In fact, we should thank everyone and anyone who has impacted our lives in any shape or form. We are who we are today because of any and every interaction we’ve had with others in the past and present.
Furthermore, we should all try to do Morning and Evening Upasana everyday but if we cannot then we should at least take 7 minutes from our “busy” lives to do mara and dedicate some time to Paramguru.
“We human beings don’t realize how great God is. He has given us an extraordinary brain and a sensitive loving heart. He has blessed us with two lips to talk and express our feelings, two eyes which see a world of colors and beauty, two feet which walk on the road of life, two hands to work for us, a nose which smells the beauty of fragrance, and two ears to hear the words of love”. – Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai quotes
I believe that no matter how much you thank Paramguru, it is never going to be enough but we should continue to thank him everyday for what he has given us and appreciate the people has has put in our lives more than materialistic things.
